***warning** this is a three page pity party. Proceed at your own risk.

I want a vacation. I want out of my own skin.

I am clinging to my computer these days, desperately sending everyone to bed so I can have five minutes of "me" time.

Everybody wants a little piece of me.

The kids are HOME all day. When I get home they are all over me. The Honey wants my attention once he gets home. My sweet elderly landlady flagged me down as I was late to work the other day, had me park and get out and come inside her house--I thought she had some sort of emergency--no, just a present for the Honey. The Honey's family has us going over two or three nights a week for Big O to practice for the Quinceanera, and it lasts ALL NIGHT. We need to take the MIL out on weekends. I can't even hide in the bathroom, Little O will just talk thru the door.

Work is playing a big part in my restlessness. My boon fishbowl companion, Bre, has gotten the lateral job change she has pined for (because she really doesn't like customers, which is rough for a customer service rep). New girl came in, and took her spot.

I am socially retarded on my good days. I can get along with anyone, but finding someone that gets me is rare. Bre was one of those people, and now she's gone to the back office. Kim was another and she moved away (Yay, Kim!), and this is not the first time Bre has gone to a different part of the office. I know that playing the "She's not Bre" game is a losing prospect.

I'll adjust. I will.

However.

You know that sensation of just not connecting? Like you're playing catch, lobbing the silly playground ball back and forth, and all of a sudden you see that giant leather medicine ball coming for you, and you just watch it hit the ground, and rather than picking it up you both just blink and watch it as the uncomfortable silence grows? That's a lot of my day. Oh, except that I'm training new girl, we're short staffed, and several of the jobs that I used to marvel at Bre doing have been *ahem* gifted to me. Due to various IT issues, I am the only one in the office that can do things that are normally available to any CSR, so those are getting dropped in my in box. I'm waiting for the lecture about my cluttered desk. With a new girl parked right next to me? I'm always ON. Sigh.

And Bre is gone. And both of the new girls have more motherfucking internet access than me.

Blogher is this weekend. Several of my bloggy idols are there. It would be fun.

And yet...

The folks I adore and would love to meet? Not gonna be there. None of them have even mentioned Blogher, and aren't really the folks who would. My own lack of social skills would have me lurking behind potted plants the whole time, afraid to move. I am painfully, pathologically shy in situations like that.

But it won't be this close to me again for a long time. I adore the bloggy community as a whole, a group based on words and humor (and frequently their kids). These are all things that are vital and interesting to me. Most of the folks at work or in my life would just blink at me like I'd just dropped a big medicine ball in the middle of the room if I said the word blog. (Except for my brother, who totally ratted me out on the whole ice cream maker thing--thanks, Jeffro!)

Sweet Jeebus, if I weren't playing Scrabulous with my best Jen, I'd have gone postal weeks ago. Did I mention that everyone is going on vacation? yeah, that's why we're short at work. My daddi-o even left for FIJI this morning to go build a church--three weeks of slave labor in exchange for a fourth week of glorious snorkeling, and it's tax deductable! I just wanna go to my mom's for a four day weekend, man, but gas prices suck ass too.

What would the flying spaghetti monster say? Maybe I'll entertain myself tomorrow by trying to throw in a few pirate phrases on the phone. The problem is when I start thinking in pirate speak, I sort of wander into some weird leprechaun on crack accent. Like the lucky charms guy after a three day bender. What can I say? It's a gift...

Random slash dot madness

I can't remember what, exactly CRSE calls these, but I am documenting my short attention span with the following random thoughts:

-crazy stuff on PBS, bad early seventies musical special. I cannot stand Jethro Tull, and watching them perform does not improve the experience. By the same token, I have to give props to the band geek that parlayed his flute playing into an actual position of power in a successful rock band. Still creepy as hell, and creepier to watch, but jeez, talk about living a dream. The rock flute. creepy.

-I laugh and cannot believe that the rest of the country thinks all californians surf and drive convertibles to the beach, but I do the same thing. Everytime I hear about wild weather, I fret for Sayre in Florida, or Kathleen in Texas, and I worried about how CRSE was getting to AZ, and if they were dealing with shit weather along the way. Imagine my horror to read that IAI DID get the tornado experience. If Ms. Chuck admits to wild eyed anxiety, it had to be mother humming terrifying. I'm glad everyone is okay.

-But I'm sending house and health vibes to you, Sayre--feel better and let's think of a grand send off for your last weekend with the college kids--get the neighbors in on it and blast wayne newton or something equally torturous to college aged kids. Are they too old for the super high frequency that only kids can hear? If they are, I'll bet their dates aren't. Or there's a PBS special that's creepy as hell, with Jethro Tull --you probably know the one...

-Little O has become obsessed with her western shirt. I told her she was a Rodeo Queen and let her wear her tiara to the laser tag party on Sunday. Tonight she conned me into buying her an aqua blue cowgirl hat with it's own tiara attatched. Now she really IS a rodeo queen.

Woo HOO!

I would like to applaud Miz Bananas on her conversion to new Blogger.

Her blog would be complete if only she had a DorkBloggers button. She's probably waiting for the button with the toilet paper on the shoe...

Thursday 13 #23-Blogging Questions...

Originally uploaded by Suzy0928.

There are so many fabulous looking blogs out there. Tricked out ones, ones with fabulous graphics, clever toys that pop up unexpectedly… I have expressed my lust for a pretty blog before, and while I like the clean, simple lines of this template, it’s also a little boring.

Here are my 13 Blogging Questions:

1. How do you do the strike through thing? I thought that I had the right html code, but it was wrong…

2. What could I be doing wrong that photos saved to my computer won’t show up? I looooove some of the TT headers, but I have never been able to get one to show up.

3. Is typepad better than blogger? Is it easier, or is it better for people who know their mouse from a hole in the ground?

4. What is the bloggy etiquette for blogging flickr photos? I thought that if the “blog this” button was available, permission to use had already been granted? Is that incorrect? I hope not, because I just discovered TT headers on Flickr!

5. How do you do the roll up blogrolls, so they are tucked discreetly out of the way? (Great Lakes State Of Mind)Or how about that clever box that takes up a finite amount of space, but someone can scroll down through to see the rest? Love those…

6. Header graphics—moron simple, or advanced stuff that requires opposable thumbs and a working knowledge of coding?

7. I read lots of people that I don’t comment on, because either I have nothing to say, or someone has said it before me in the comments and I’d feel like a dork just parroting someone else. Is that kind of lurking a bad thing?

8. Linky etiquette: Isn’t it wrong to throw your link into the linky box unless you also comment? I lurk, but I also don’t ask for a link without a comment.

9. What is the advantage of Haloscan comments vs. Blogger comments? (Aside from Blogger’s general brainfarts and outages)

10. Am I not a mommyblogger because I blog about other stuff, too? My kids are, I think, integrated into my blog pretty thoroughly, but not EVERY post—or am I excluded from being a mommyblog because I curse? Am I a Bad Mommyblog? Oohh, I’ve never been a rebel before… Okay, is there a category for dorkblogs?

11. I think I saw the explanation in someone’s blog the other day, but it was STILL over my head-the thing where your mouse hovers over something and a little box shows a comment by the blog author, or shows when their link was last updated—that link update thing is VERY cool.(Death’s Door)

12. Is it just annoying to blog about my family and NOT have a cast of characters to refer to?

13. Are my entries too long? (Is this the bloggy equivalent of does this blog make my ass look big?)

Sorry to be a wailing, insecure blogger. But I have this odd luck with computers—I swear it’s like I generate my own personal magnetic field and they all become just a little fey when I ‘m around them for too long.

I got tagged! I got tagged!

Sheesh! Step away from the computer for two days and what happens? Kim not only posts something, she posts a meme and tags ME!!! (Yay)

It's the Mastercard Meme, or The Priceless 5, or, um, yeah. The meme.

Very simple meme, take the numbers 1-5 then priceless while matching them up with number type things in your life (you could go to 10 if you want to, I don't feel like it at this particular moment in time).

5... The number of people the Honey would like to have in our little family. Favorite Sister-in-law (and we may have to re-think that title) has planted it in Little O's head that she is getting a baby brother for Christmas.

4... The number of times I have skipped Thursday Thirteen since I started...but the original blog that I stalked, Casual Slack, has started occasionally doing TT's, so I figure it balances out, cosmically speaking.

3... The number of dryers I have gone through since moving into my ghetto duplex. Number three was finally installed this week--no more laundromats-yay! What am I doing to kill them?

2... Lifetimes worth of laundry I have to catch up on this weekend. ugh.

1... aneurysm I thought I was having--my wireless keyboard finally needs it's batteries changed. I thought my typing had suddenly gone to hell, but I knew I was hitting all of the keys...

Priceless... Shopping with Little O and realizing that she talked nonstop for three hours, and that it's exactly what I used to do. If my parents never stuffed a sock into my mouth, I guess I have to resist the urge as well. Good thing she's entertaining!

I am tagging CRSE, as soon as she is feeling better, Sayre, and The "Mind". I'd also like to tag Jenny in CA, but I know she's got a full plate right now.

She is the Pied Piper...

Damn that CRSE, she puts such juicy morsels on her blog, and I just can't help myself. My blog-quiz diet is blown--isn't it de-lish?

You scored as Miyamoto Musashi.

You're considered a sword saint, whatever the fuck that is. You don't give two hoots what weapon or tact people come at you with, as your solution is a steady grip on a sharp blade and it tends to work.

You're never going to be defeated in battle, but you are going to die of Cancer.

I, too, have my doubts about this, but I am a lemming.

The deal?

1) Harken back to your archives.
2) Collect the first sentence you wrote every month for the whole year.
3) Entertain us

06/06: How I've been conned into blogging when I am the world's worst typist, I'll never know...bear with me!
07/06: I am soo broke, and really want a good book right now.
08/06: You know the one... he's got his own personal foible that is so distinctive it's become his moniker?
09/06: I WANT a pretty new blog.
10/06: Carolee Wallis was my mother-in-law.
11/06: So happy halloween. yeah. whatever.
12/06: So you know that I work as a Customer Service rep for the garbage company.

Copied, as ever, from the lovely CRSE at Zamphir Panflutemaster. She had me at Zamphir.

I have soooo got to stop using the word so. Must find bad 80's hair photo for the contest going on at Great Lakes State Of Mind. So far have found some awful 80's glasses photos that were almost enough to have the Honey* sleeping on the couch, but no good hair photos.

*note to future generations: When your woman shows you awful photos from her past, don't start cappin' on her like she's one of your drinking buddies--it will not end well, motherf*cker.

Alien Lemmings...

I just wanted to see if Picassa worked with Beta. Posted by Picasa

Lemming Pride, baby!

I only ever got five votes on my fabulous blog poll regarding Beta Blogger. That was actually one more than I thought I'd get. I got more votes for the line about midget porn than any real input on Beta being the sign of the apocolypse. So I just waited...

Sure enough, my secret twin, CRSE, jumped off the Beta cliff.

I, being a lemming, am leaping after her with my eyes screwed shut against the earth rushing to meet me.

Still no luck in getting technorati to recognize me--is it my forbidden love for Mr. Linky? Oh well, maybe the tag feature in Beta will help...
